The surface

A reflection belongs to the room as much as to the object. A curve interrupts it. A fold divides it. Light brings the surface into view.

Material and making

The work begins with sheet steel.

Vlasceanu brings techniques learned in the shipyard into the studio. Heat, internal tension and rapid cooling give the metal its curve. Weeks of polishing by hand bring the reflection to the surface.

Across the work, mirror polish and brushed areas offer two different ways of receiving light. One returns the surrounding space; the other softens or interrupts it.
